In a device for detecting the position of a moving part in a motor vehicle, in particular the throttle valve, the single resistor circuit (21) is split into two regions preferably of different lengths by means of an additional contact point (28). Both regions are measured in succession by means of a detector (23) in order to obtain a position signal having a different or even identical resolution, depending on the region. The various signals detected are then allocated electrically to said regions and they are further processed accordingly. A different resolution can be obtained relatively easily in each loading region.
