PURPOSE:To produce powder having superior sinterability, compressible to high density and giving a sintered material having satisfactory characteristics by powdering a 'Sendust(R)' type alloy by a rotating electrode method using a consumable electrode made of the alloy. CONSTITUTION:Arc discharge is caused between a consumable electrode made of a 'Sendust(R)' type alloy as the anode and a tungsten electrode as the cathode in an inert Ar atmosphere under prescribed conditions to melt the discharge surface of the consumable electrode. At the same time, the consumable electrode is rotated. By the rotation, the resulting melt is centrifugally sprayed to form fine spheres. The surfaces of the spheres are smooth and free from sticking impurities such as oxide. The spherical powder can be compressed to high density by close packing, so a sintered material having satisfactory magnetic characteristics can be obtd.
