PURPOSE:To offer a method for lumping powder Cr ore which can make efficient and economical melt reduction by compounding essentially >= kinds among Fe-Si alloy powder, Ni oxide powder, Ni sulfide powder, AOD slag powder and desiliconization powder of a molten iron with the powdery Cr ore and subjecting the mixture to premolding or sintering. CONSTITUTION:The mixture prepd. by adding >= kinds among the above- mentioned Fe-Si alloy powder, Ni oxide powder, Ni sulfide powder, etc., and adding an assistant, moisture, surface active agent and powder coke as CaO and SiO2 sources at need is used and is subjected to premolding or sintering. The SiO2-component formed by burning Si can be utilized as an SiO2 source in addition to the heat source in the melt reduction stage by using the Fe-Si alloy powder as the assistant to be added to the powdery Cr ore according to the method of this invention. The efficient use of the Cr ore as a Cr source in producing an Ni contg. stainless steel is permitted by compounding the Ni oxide and Ni sulfide therewith. Harmful components are decreased by using the AOD slag powder and the desiliconization powder of the molten iron as a slag forming agent.
