PURPOSE:To quickly restore information and perform the simulated change operation while economizing in capacity of a segment buffer by performing the simulated change in the save system as long as the segment buffer has enough remainder capacity to perform this operation but performing it in the recording system when the save system is impossible because of a lack of the remainder capacity. CONSTITUTION:A capacity recognizing part 7 which recognizes the remainder capacity of a segment buffer 5 and a system selecting part 8 which selects the recording system or the save system as the preserving system of a pattern information unit, for example, current graphic pattern contents of a segment at the time of simulated change in accordance with the remainder capacity recognized by said part 7 are provided. A segment buffer 5 of a graphic display device 2 is provided with a drawing information storage area 9 and a save area 10. Drawing information as the processing object of a host computer 1 is stored in the drawing information storage area 9, and drawing information for simulation is storage area 9, and drawing information for simulation is stored there when the host computer 1 performs the simulated change processing. The save area 10 is used when the save system is selected by the system selecting part 8.
