In a forward-feed device for a machine tool, the support (7) which bears the tool (4) is moved by a spindle drive (10). The spindle drive is formed by a spindle (11) which is driven by a motor (13) and on which a rolling nut (14) runs which displaces the support (7). In this arrangement a piston (15) which can be displaced in a cylinder (16) connected to the support (7) is connected to the rolling nut (14). In addition, a space (17) which can be fed with pressurised medium via a connection (18) is formed between the piston (15) and the cylinder (16). The rolling nut (14) acts on the support (7) via the space (17) which is fed constant, adjustable pressure. <IMAGE>
