The present invention relates to cutters for coal planes, in particular plug-in notched cutters with a recess arranged at a tip facing the coal and a wear-resistant blade embedded in the said recess. This cutter differs from the prior art in that the blade has an outer zone which is enriched with particles of hard material and an inner zone which is free of hard material, and in that the blade is welded to the cutter body at least in the region of the zone which is free of hard material. <IMAGE>
