The blockable lift mechanism for infinitely adjusting seats, tabletops and similar includes a guide tube (1) and a longitudinally adjustable lockable gas spring (8) whose piston rod (10) is detachably connected to the base of the guide tube where it is axially secure. The gas spring casing (9) is mounted radially fixed in an additional tube (20) on which the fastening section (21) is formed for connecting the casing (9) to a hub (22) on the seat, table etc. One end of the casing (9) axially adjoins a stop in the area of the fastening section (21) whilst the other end adjoins a fastening element (24) which is detachably connected to the tube (20).
