PURPOSE:To reduce the size and cost of facilities for a low-temperature start test by accomodating an engine whose low-temperature start is to be tested in a storage box. CONSTITUTION:The atmosphere in the storage box 2, engine 1, and transmission 31 are cooled firstly to specific temperature with low-temperature air generated by an air processing machine 8. Respective cooling elements around the engine 1 are cooled to specific temperature with low-temperature brine produced by a brine cooling machine 11. Then the engine 1 is started and start performance data on the engine 1 at respective low temperatures are measure by a dynamometer 4. Further, an on-off valve 48 is opened from the start of the engine 1 to the end of the test to supply the low-temperature brine to a cooling coil 46 and a fan 15 is put in operation to cool the atmosphere in the storage box 2. Further, the low-temperature air produced by the processing machine 8 is discharged to nearby the intake 47a of an air cleaner 47 and used as the suction air of the engine 1 after the start.
