PURPOSE:To provide a low cost device and prevent gas leakage by providing a plurality of slits on the valve body of a main valve for stopping supply of gas to a main burner. CONSTITUTION:The body 20 of this ignition device for gas appliance is provided with a communication opening 21c which is connected to a main burner and a governor 40 which is provided with a main valve 43 that serves as well as a governor valve which opens and closes a communication opening at the tip end. The valve body 48 of a main valve 43 is formed as a disc and the area near the circumference is covered with a rubber sheet 49 and has a plurality of slits 48a which extend radially with an equal distance among them. With this arrangement the valve body 48 has elasticity, and when the main valve is closed, the valve body 48 and the communication opening 21c contact each other positive by and gas leakage can be prevented.
