PURPOSE:To enhance a printing efficiency by varying a printing speed corresponding to a resolving power of an image to be an original, by a method wherein prior to the reception of an image information from a host system, a resolving power signal for the image information is received from the host system. CONSTITUTION:A host system 5 outputs a signal designating a resolving power of an original together with a printing request to a printer. The printer contains a microcomputer 1 controlling the whole printer. The microcomputer 1 analyzes the resolving power of an image information simultaneously with reception of the printing request signal from the host system 5, and furthermore imparts a rotating speed change-over signal to a motor control circuit 2 according to the resolving power. The motor control circuit 2 changes over the rotating speed of a photosensitive drum 4 according to the obtained rotating speed change-over signal.
