Desulphuriser (I) is directly injected into molten pig iron using carrier gas. (I) is mainly composed of CaCO3. It may contain quick lime less than 30 wt.%, 5-20% carbonaceous material and 2-15% of 1 or more alkali (ne earth) metal halides. Calcium carbonate is cheaper than prior art calcium carbide. Calcium carbonate has been considered as a harmful component, since it undergoes endothermic decompositions to lower the temp. of molten pig iron. However, when it is injected together with carrier gas into molten pig iron, the temp. of the molten pig iron is not lowered so much. |
