PURPOSE:To successively obtain scan signals with a circuit relatively simple in constitution, by using currently used different CCD image pickup elements to share in respective image picking up of video signals corresponding to odd- numbered and even-numbered scanning lines and multiplexing the output signals of the elements. CONSTITUTION:During the first half period of a horizontal effective video period TH, signal charges corresponding to the odd-numbered scanning lines 23 of a CCD 1 are outputted to the outside as time series video signals (signal (I)) through a horizontal register 26 and output circuit 30. During the second half period of the horizontal effective video period TH, signal charges corresponding to the even-numbered scanning lines 24 of another CCD 2 are outputted to the outside as time series video signals (signal (II)) through another horizontal shift register 27 and output circuit 31. The two kinds of time series video signals (signals (I) and (II)) are finally multiplexed through the operation of a switch 15 and scan signals (signal (III)) are successively obtained. Therefore, scan signals can directly be obtained successively with a circuit having a relatively simple constitution without making any large-scale external signal processing.
