PURPOSE:To excavate the ground with high efficiency by a method in which a tube shaft for forming the passage of vertical clamshell and also for supporting cutter in combination is provided through the slab of a caisson, and a helical drum cutter is extended from the lower end to the side of the tube shaft. CONSTITUTION:In settling a caisson 4, compressed air is supplied into an excavating chamber 10 for pressurization. While turning a helical cutter 8, the cutter 8 is lowered through a spiral cylinder 18 and a tube shaft 3 by a liquid-pressure cylinder 2 for excavating the ground 58. The excavated soil 59 is carried by a helical van 26 to below the shaft 3 and lifted and transported by a clamshell 41. When the soil 59 passes through a damper 55, the damper 55 is turned to interrupt the middle part of the pileline 35. The clamshell 41 is opened and the soil 59 is supplied through a screw conveyer 51 to the bucket 60.
