The invention proposes an instrument for reattachment of a detached retina to the inner wall of the eyeball. This instrument comprises a bubble-shaped or pocket-shaped balloon (12 and 17, respectively) which can be inserted into the interior of the eyeball, consists of a thin-walled, flexible, transparent, water-tight, sterilisable material which contains ferromagnetic particles (15, 20) at least in some parts and which is connected to a piece of tubing (13, 18) opening in the balloon interior, and at least one permanent magnet (23) which is surrounded by a sheath (24) of a water-tight, sterilisable material. <IMAGE>
