A sailing yacht, yawl, or the like with a motor, a rudder, a log, and a wind measuring facility is to be constructed so that an increase in the yacht's manoeuvrability under widely varying operating conditions, such as close-hauled or running before the wind, while improving course holding at the same time. For this purpose, a steerable fore-fin is located on the hull forwards of the main lateral plane of the yacht; this is connected for steering to a servomotor, which in turn is connected to a process computer. In the process computer, a program to determine the size and delay of the fore-fin angle is hardwired. In addition, the process computer has terminals at the rudder, the log, and the wind measuring facility to register the size of the rudder angle, or the speed of the yacht, or the speed and direction of the wind.
