PURPOSE:To enable to rapidly mount a sheet by further moving a carriage from a normal printing end position in an end direction, thereby operating a transmitting mechanism to a sheet feeding mechanism to normally rotate a platen to thereby supply a new sheet to the platen while feeding the sheet of the platen. CONSTITUTION:When a new sheet is fed to a platen 3, a carriage 10 is moved from its home position A to left end position B to contact one end of an operation lever 15 at the end face to cause a switching lever 12 to raise its one end 12a and to rotate. Thus, gear 14 is engaged with a gear 29. When the platen 3 is rotated in this state, a sheet feed roller 26 separates a sheet P by a retaining pawl attached to a sheet feeding tray 23 by the rotation of a one- way clutch in the locking state of the one-way clutch to feed only one sheet. The previously printed sheet P of the platen 3 is simultaneously fed by sheet exhausting rollers 34, 35 to an exhaust sheet tray 24. When new sheet P arrives at a predetermined position of the platen 3, a carriage 10 is returned to its home position A. In this case, when the platen 3 is slightly reversely rotated, the engagement of the gear 14 with the gear 29 is disengaged, the lever 12 is rotatably reset to complete the sheet feeding operation.
