PURPOSE:To curtail expenditures, and to improve the work efficiency by putting a code entry surface having a separate information height section of a carried object onto a lateral outside surface of the carried object, and detecting a horizontal line which is entered into this section, by an image sensor. CONSTITUTION:In a little to the front of a lateral outside face 3 of a carried object, a code entry surface 4 of a rectangular shape is printed in a dark color such as black or blue, etc., and in one side of the code entry surface 4, display numbers 1-5 of a sections which divide equally a read range into the upper and lower parts are printed near the section concerned. When a horizontal line 5 is entered in white magic ink in the code entry surface 4, an image sensor detects the horizontal line 5, when the carried object 1 shields a light beam and operates a photoelectric switch 6 provided on the carrying path. In such a way, comparing with a device using a bar-code lavel and a bar-code reader, a preparation of a label and a trouble for sticking it can be saved.
