PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic tape which has satisfactory properties and characteristics with a smaller amt. of a polishing agent by providing a magnetic layer contg. the polishing agent on a magnetic layer which is provided on a base and does not contain the polishing agent. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic layer 1 is formed by two times of coating into two-layered structure; the magnetic layer 3 contg. the polishing agent is provided on the magnetic layer which is provided on the base and does not contain the polishing agent. If a magnetic coating compd. contg. the polishing agent is coated on the base, the polishing agent is in the end distributed over the entire part of the magnetic layer and the polishing agent existing except on the surface layer eventually fails to act its intrinsic function. From such reason, the magnetic layer is made into the two layers so that the polishing agent is made to exist more in the surface layer of the magnetic layers. The excellent polishing characteristic is thereby obtd.
