<p>A driving pinion, housed in the steering casing and meshing with a toothed rack, is particularly prone to fractures, being subjected as it is to a high level of jerk stress. Said pinion's stress-bearing capability should therefore be increased. Above the driving pinion (1) in the steering casing lies a protective shell (11). Said protective shell (11) can be riveted, screwed or glued to the steering casing (4). It encompasses the driving pinion (1) on about 180°. The protective shell can also be cast into the steering casing (4) to form a projection. Under high jerk stresses, the driving pinion (1) flexes, and is applied against the protective shell (11). A fracture of the driving pinion (1) is thereby avoided.</p> |
