PURPOSE:To permit correct warning of a deficient residual amt. of a toner to an operator, etc., by detecting and displaying once the deficient residual amt. of the toner, then maintaining the display until a toner cartridge is replaced. CONSTITUTION:Application of a developing bias is executed approximately during printing operation and, therefore, the deficient residual amt. of the toner is no longer displayed except during the printing operation and the operator misunderstands that the sufficient toner remains in the conventional method for detecting the residual amt. of the toner by the developing bias. A control means which displays the deficient residual amt. of the toner upon detection of the residual amt. of the toner in the toner cartridge below the prescribed amt., displays the deficient residual amt. by a display means upon detection of the replacement of the toner cartridge and maintains the display of the deficient residual amt. of the toner till the replacement of the toner cartridge is, thereupon, provided. The exact announcement of the deficient residual amt. of the toner to the operator is thereby permitted.
