Method for pleating fabric 1, consisting: - in delivering the material 1 to be pleated flat; - in forming pleats in the length direction of the said material, the formation of pleats being performed continuously, with no stoppage or deadtime; - after forming the said pleats, in continuously executing a fixing treatment inside a treatment chamber 3. It is characterised in that, after pleating, the material 1 is surrounded by a continuous textile envelope 4, forming a sheath, located around the pleated material, not circumferentially but in the direction of advance of the material, the pleated material and the envelope 4 surrounding it being pulled by a traction assembly 5 located at the exit of the fixing chamber 3, and which exerts its force on the sheathing envelope. <IMAGE>
