The invention relates to a contact device for fitting to automatic switches for the purpose of a current-limiting switching capability based on the principle of forces which produce a lifting-off effect with increasing current. The invention is based on the object of finding a method of construction with large, repelling electrodynamic forces for a contact link which can be accommodated in a small additional module and consists of only a few stamped-bent parts. The object is achieved according to the invention by a moving contact link, which is constructed in a U-shape and has long limbs, being located opposite two current paths on the stationary contact support, whose separation from one another is less than 2.5 mm and whose position is transverse with respect to the current path guidance in the movement direction. <IMAGE>
