A catching device (1) (Fig. 1) serves in particular to separate out solid particles from an air stream. It has a pipe section (2) as flow passage, which at its underside has a lateral opening (6) adjoined by a connection piece (15) and a collecting receptacle (5). Situated above the inlet opening is a directing surface (8), by means of which the arriving air stream containing the solid particles is deflected towards the collecting receptacle (5). As a result of which deflection, there takes place a separation of solid particles and air, the air then being sucked off downstream of the directing surface (8). The collecting device (1) is designed especially as an insert for insertion into a vacuum-cleaner tube, as required. <IMAGE>
