Automatic, or at least vastly simplified, adjustment of the operating elements for variable handles. The automatic adjustment is achieved in that, when shortening the variable handle, the drive cable is shortened, by pulling it between the handle parts, just like the variable handle, with the result that the pulling cable remains taut.
