Support bodies, wound from metal strips, for catalytic reactors, in order to be securely held in their casings against the force of the flowing medium, must generally be soldered in a relatively complex manner. In order to avoid this, it is proposed to wind the support body to give a truncated cone shape and to insert this into a corresponding casing. The support body thus created, which is expediently wound about a core remaining in the support body, remains in the conical case without soldering. Only one fixing of the core is provided. The novel support body is suitable for a catalytic reactor for motor vehicle engine exhaust gas purification.
