The invention relates to a fuse link for disconnecting an overcurrent in an electrical conductor. The hermetically sealed housing is filled with hydrogen which cools the fuse link in the event of slight overcurrents somewhat better than air, but considerably improves the cooling in the event of the fuse link melting with an arc being formed, and thus contributes to the arc being extinguished. The hydrogen filling allows the use of previously unused materials for the fuse link, specifically metals and the like which have low melting points and tend to oxidise, which have a relatively high electrical resistance. The thickness of the fuse conductor thus increases, so that the handling capability during production is improved. In addition, greater inertia in the response characteristic can be achieved.
