In the case of a telephone exchange containing a plurality of telephone sets, for example a private branch exchange, the individual telephone sets are connected to and disconnected from the common connecting line with the aid of relay switching devices. This necessitates a high component outlay and causes correspondingly high costs. According to the invention, it is provided, for connection and disconnection of a telephone set, for a controllable switching device to be connected between the two wires assigned to the telephone set, with the aid of which switching device the telephone set can be short-circuited. As a result of this measure, it is possible to use electronic switching devices, especially electronic semiconductor components.
