PURPOSE: To allow a user to adjust the hardness of the bed surface by providing a fluid circuit means partially expanding a first inflation bag before the inflation of a second inflation bag starts. CONSTITUTION: A first inflation bag 12 is located on the far side, i.e., separated side, from a person lying on a mattress 10 at the normal operating position. A second inflation bag 14 is arranged in contact with the first inflation bag 12 and is located on the near side to the person lying on the mattress 10 or adjacently to the person. Two inflation bags 12, 14 are normally kept at the contact state with each other when the mattress 10 is used. A fluid feed/control circuit is provided with a feed source of a pressurized expansion fluid and a circuit means connected to the inflation bags 12, 14. The circuit means controls the flow of the expansion fluid so that the first inflation bag 12 is invariably inflated prior to the second inflation bag 14 and the first inflation bag 12 invariably has a pressure higher than that of the second inflation bag 14.
