A collapsible avalanche probe consists of tubular probe sections which can be inserted into each other at their ends, a common connecting cord which is incapable of lengthwise elongation being guided in the interior of the probe sections, secured to the probe at one end by its insertion end, and connected by its other end to a tensioning device.
