A process for the preparation of a substantially pore-free shaped article having a thick section, composed of polycyclic norbornene polymer, which comprises bulk-polymerizing a norbornene monomer having a tricyclic or higher cyclic structure in the presence of a methathesis catalyst in a mold while controlling the maximum curing exotherm temperature of the reaction mixture to a level not exceeding 160 DEG C.
