<p>The road roller (1) comprises a heavy chassis (2) and two sets (4, 5) of compacting wheels with tyres. The set (4) is a driving set and comprises a hydraulic motor (6), supplied with hydraulic fluid by a main pump (3), of variable capacity, driven by a thermal engine (3a). The set (5) is driven and comprises, fixed on the axle, a secondary pump (7), of variable capacity, connected in parallel on the main pump (3). The presence of the pump (7) creates a braking of the driven set (5) proportional to the capacity of this pump. The drive force on the set (4) is increased as a consequence; maintenance of the speed of progression is obtained by reducing the capacity of the pump (3). The increase of the tangential forces on the sets of wheels favours the kneading of the granular road surfacing to be compacted, without increasing the power required of the engine by the same proportion. <IMAGE></p> |
