This invention relates to a rotary compressor for refrigerators. This rotary compressor includes a journal, a compression mechanism, a motor to drive the journal and a supporting bearing for the journal. The compression mechanism consists of a cylinder and a piston united with the journal to suck, to compress and to discharge gas by rotating the piston eccentrically in the compression chamber of the cylinder. An axial oil groove formed along the journal introduces lubricant into a gap between the journal and the bearing. The oil groove is located on the journal surface along a low pressure area of an oil film caused by the rotation of the journal.
