The invention relates to a barrier having a U-shaped holder (5) which is pivotable about a horizontal shaft (4) and is intended for receiving a barrier beam (3) between the two legs (7) of the holder, the holder being open perpendicularly to the pivoting plane of the barrier beam. It is the object of the present invention to provide a barrier of the said type in which, when an unpredicted high force is applied to the barrier beam perpendicularly to its pivoting plane, for example when unintentionally or intentionally travelling through the barrier beam, although the latter can tilt out of the holder it cannot be completely detached from the holder. According to the invention, a barrier of the type mentioned is proposed, which is characterised in that catch elements (9, 10), passing through openings (11, 12) in the barrier beam, are arranged between the legs (7), spaced apart from one another in the longitudinal direction of the holder (5). <IMAGE>
