An inhaler designed as pocket apparatus consists of a container which can be closed with a cap and which has at one end an inhalation orifice and, a distance therefrom, at least one air inlet orifice and which furthermore contains an absorbent material as well as essential oils generating the vapours for inhalation. In order to keep the inhaler capable of functioning even during prolonged storage and transport periods, the essential oils are accommodated in a closed container which is to be broken open by the action of force before use.
