<p>New polyfunctional disulphide cpds. are of formula (I). In (I) R is 2-benzothiazolyl or a 2-pyridyl N-oxide gp; and X is a sepg. gp. contg. an alkylene gp. linked directly to -S-S gp. (I) are useful as crosslinking re-agents which react with cpds. carrying SH gps. such as enzymes, cpds. which enter into immune reactions (e.g. haptens, antigens, receptors), carries (e.g. protein carriers or immobilised carriers), or thiol-modified derivs. When (I) is reacted with an equimolar amt. of SH-cpd., the -S-S gp attached to 2-benzothiazolyl gp is the more reactive, and subsequent addn. of a second SH-cpd. gives rise to reaction of second SH gp with the -S-S- gp attached to the 2-pyridyl residue.</p> |
