<p>An alkylated prod. comprises the reaction of stoichiometric amts. of glyoxal (A) and a cyclic urea (B) of formula (I) or (II) where R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are H, OH, COOH, R, OR or COOR where R is C1-4 (substit.) alkyl and X is C, O or N. When X is O or N, R3 and R4 are zero. A process for imparting crease- resistance to a textile comprises impregnating the textile with a soln. of alkylated prod. as finishing agent and a catalyst, and heating to effect curing. The alkylated prod. is used as a textile finishing agent, as a dry or wet-strength resin in paper, as a binder in boards, wood, insulation materials, coated and bonded abrasives, as an adhesive for wood and laminates, as a film-forming resin in coating and printing inks and as additives in fibres and rubber processing. The alkylated prod. contains no formaldehyde and is an excellent cross-linking resin for textiles.</p> |
