A description is given of a process for forming a film pack, in which an article to be packed is wrapped in a single web of packing film (1) by the said article being pressed against the web of plastic film (1) drawn off a supply roller, so that the said film forms a pocket and, behind the article, comes together again and forms a stem part, which is clamped together. After this, the - two-ply - stem part of the film is welded at a point next to the clamped position on the side away from the article to be packed, creating a heat weld (e) along a transverse line and the weld is severed transversely. As a result, the article thus packed is detached, while the continuous form of the drawn-off film web is maintained, that is to say the weld half not remaining on the packed article is attached to a short length of scrap film web on the one hand and to the part of the film web coming from the supply roller on the other hand and joins these parts of the film web to each other.
