In known tyre washing systems, complex substructures are required into which cleaning jets are integrated, which jets spray vertically upwards and spray and damage water-sensitive vehicle components such as hot exhaust manifolds and brake drums. Continuous cleaning of the surface of the tyre is impossible. In other known tyre washing systems, the tyres to be cleaned are rotated on pairs of rollers. This structure is very complex in design and the distance between the pairs of rollers cannot be matched to all vehicles. Each axle must be stopped on a pair of rollers for cleaning. The new tyre washing system is intended to clean the tyres with a simple structure as they move over continuously. The continuous cleaning of the vehicle tyres is triggered by rows of jets at right angles to the underlying surface, the said rows of jets spraying at the plane angle of 20@ against the tyres and being arranged spaced in such a way that the surfaces of the tyres are continuously cleaned. The tyre washing system permits automatic cleaning of tyres of vehicles which travel from heavily soiled surfaces onto public roads.
