A burner (10) for a gas-turbine engine has an annular member (11) in which a central member (22) is provided coaxially. The central member (22) is constructed in a hollow fashion and is provided at its downstream end with an end cap (28) which cooperates with the downstream end of the annular member (11) in order to produce a radial outlet (30) for the fuel/air mixture. The air, which is guided into the interior (33) of the central member (22), causes transpiration (diffusion, sweat) cooling of the middle section (34) of the end plate, and in addition it is guided via channels (35) in order to guide an air flow over the radial outer circumference (29) of the surface, pointing downstream, of the end cap (28) and thereby to cause cooling and to prevent the deposition of carbon thereon. <IMAGE>
