The multi-function regulator includes a circuit (1) detecting the battery voltage level and providing a signal (SRAB) to cut the connection between the battery and alternator and a second signal (SRE) controlling the excitation. A further circuit (2) detects the amplitude of the alternator phase voltage, to produce a detection signal (PSD) w.r.t. a threshold value (VSO). The signals are used to activate the alternator at different thresholds according to the speed of the alternator. Another circuit detects any fault in the charging of the battery.
