Moulded profiles which simulate marble are made by (a) coating parts of the walls and base of a cavity mould with a colourant consistent with the veins of natural marble, pref. as a welded blend with particles of plaster for adherance to the walls; (b) pouring into the base of the mould to about 10% of its capacity, a quantity of plaster tinted to the required background colour, after which (c) the cavity is almost filled with a block of a harder plastic compsn. The block is then pressed under sufficient force to cause the initial charge to be displaced sufficiently to fill the gaps between the hard core and the mould walls, enveloping the contrasting material without significant displacement. The plasters may be modified with or based on polyester resin. USE/ADVANTAGE - A relatively simple process to produce solid blocks while restricting the use of colourants to the superficial zones.
