The clamping device for machine tools, which in principle is constructed as described in German Patent 3407003, differs from this clamping device by the basic part 1 being designed as a cylinder circular in cross-section, i.e. as a corresponding column. The surface of the clamping parts 2 which adjoin the circumference of the cylindrical basic part 1 is correspondingly curved. The grooves 4 and rails 3 are likewise curved so that the clamping parts can be displaced, i.e. "rotated", in a continuously variable manner on the basic part in the peripheral direction. In this way, a large number of different and complicated workpieces can be accommodated and machined in one set-up, if need be from five of the six possible sides. In order to provide for reliable and positive-locking restraint in the peripheral direction between clamping part and basic part, a worm-gear tooth system 10 is formed on each cylindrical circumference of the rail 3 of the basic part 1. Furthermore, blind holes 12 are provided at the root of the grooves 4 in each of the opposite side faces 6, running perpendicularly to the grooves and rails 3, 4, of each clamping part 2. The blind holes 12 run tangentially to the circumference and their radius is greater than the distance of the hole axis 13 from the root of the allocated groove. Worms 11 can be inserted into the blind holes from both side faces 6. The worms 11 have at their end faces a receptacle 16 for a tool, and their ... Original abstract incomplete. <IMAGE>
