In a multiple transverse conveyor, a clearly rectangular working cycle is achieved in that the rake which bears the tubes is assigned to a transversely movable carriage and is supported by means of eccentrics which in each case are constructed and connected so as to be drivable when the end stops are reached, while the carriage is then kept stationary. At the end stops, the rake is thus brought into the raising or lowering position via the eccentrics, so that during lowering, for example, the tubes can be lowered exactly vertically into the further-processing machines, for example the embossing machine. As a result, the said further-processing machines require in each case only to be slightly opened and at the same time stopped, so that the working cycles can in total be substantially shortened. <IMAGE>
