DE-OS 3336121 disclosed a tape having a tape loop which forms a tape noose at a tape intersection. The tape loop, which consists of a leaf spring as clamping device and of a measuring noose having ends which are drawn apart and fastened to the ends of a leaf spring is closed. The measuring noose is located inside the other, larger loop section. A disadvantage of this tape is that it cannot be used for measurements of internal circumferences. The object of the invention is to provide a circumference measuring tape by means of which it is possible to measure the internal or external circumference depending on the formation of the loop. This object is achieved when the loop is open and its two ends are fastened to a slotted circular cylindrical sleeve or to a coaxial circular cylindrical pin in the sleeve, the measuring loop being arranged outside the sleeve, and when the pin and the sleeve can be rotated relative to one another about their common longitudinal axis, and when the relative rotary position can be determined. The advantage of this solution is the possibility of optionally measuring the circumference internally or externally on a workpiece in a simple, and thus rapid as well as convenient and reproducible fashion. <IMAGE>
