PROCESS FOR THE SEPARATION OF ARSENIC FROM ACID SOLUTIONS CONTAINING IT

Arsenic is separated from acid solutions containing other metals by extraction with a water immiscible organic solvent (I), then re- extraction from the organic phase with an anti-solvent (II). (I) is an alcohol containing at least 5C, diluted with one or more aliphatic, aromatic or naphthenic hydrocarbon. (II) is water or a neutral, saline, alkaline or acid solution. The method is applied to the Cu/H2SO4 electrolyte used in refining of blister Cu. It is simple and inexpensive and does not use toxic reagents but provides good yields.
