Phase-controlled antenna array

In the case of phase-controlled antenna arrays whose main beam direction and/or focusing is varied by driving the individual radiating elements or the individual radiating element groups in a phase-shifted manner, in order to be able to dispense with dynamically adjustable phase shifters, because of their structural size, a dedicated (large-scale integrated) modulation device is assigned to each individual radiating element or to each group of individual radiating elements. In this case, a control device supplies all the modulation devices involved either with the information on the respectively correct phase angle or with the respective oscillation itself in the correct phase, so that the main beam of the antenna can be aligned, pivoted or focused as the resultant of the beams from the individual radiating elements. In order to be able to transmit different signals in different directions using the same antenna, a plurality of modulation devices acts on in each case one individual radiating element or a group of individual radiating elements. If the output power of the modulators is sufficient, it is possible to dispense with transmission power amplifiers.
