<p>A regenerable cryosorption pump (10) with a movable physical barrier (32) in which the barrier (32) includes a cylindrical body closed at one end (33) and having a circumferential baffle (34) around the open end (35). The baffle (34) engages a flange (36) on the hydrogen isotope condensing and pumping surface (20) to require all gases entering the pump (10) during normal operation to pass through the hydrogen isotope condensing and pumping surface (20), thus avoiding bypass of that surface (20). The barrier (32) is advanced by a bellows system (38) to isolate the hydrogen isotope condensing and pumping surface (20) from the sorbent surface (28) during regeneration and thus ensuring separation of hydrogen isotopes such as tritium from helium which is sorbed onto the sorbent surface (28).</p> |
