PURPOSE:To obtain a composition, consisting essentially of fine cellulose powder or further fructooligosaccharide and useful for treating and preventing constipation and improving fecal properties for the constipation caused in patients, suffering from renal insufficiency and receiving dialysis or deficient in ingestion of dietary fibers. CONSTITUTION:A composition consisting essentially of fine cellulose powder, obtained by hydrolyzing a raw material, such as naturally occurring pulp, linter or bagasse, with a mineral acid, as necessary, applying mechanical pulverizing means, washing the pulverized raw material with water and drying the washed material, having >=90%, preferably >=95% alpha-cellulose content, >=85%, preferably >=95% hydrolysis ratio and <=200mum, preferably <=100mum maximum particle diameter and substantially without containing K, Na, Mg, etc., or further fructooligosaccharide obtained by reacting sucrose with fructosyltransferase. The dose of the fine cellulose powder is 0.5-6.0g cellulose/meal before and after every meal. |
