The guide is used for cutting a carpet and comprises an oblong body 1 having an essentially plane upper surface 3 and a channel 4 extending along the body. The inner side walls of the channel 4 form an oblique angle with the upper surface 3 so that when the guide is placed under a carpet and a knife 11 is run through the channel in contact with a side wall 5, the cut edge thereby made in the carpet has an oblique angle in relation to the plane of the carpet. When two such edges of different carpet parts are joined together, a neat and discrete join is obtained. <IMAGE>
