PURPOSE:To enhance the ability of a catalyst to remove nitrogen oxide at 400-700 deg.C by supporting a metal oxide having a specified formation enthalpy as an active component on an acid type mordenite carrier having a compsn. represented by a specified formula. CONSTITUTION:An acid type mordenite carrier having a compsn. represented by formula I (where z/x is <=0.3 molar ratio and y/x is >=5 molar ratio) is prepd. and a metal oxide whose formation enthalpy - Hf is >=80kcal per 1 gram atom of oxygen is supported as an active component on the mordenite carrier to form a catalyst for removal of nitrogen oxide. The metal oxide may be such as Nb2O5, Cr2O3, ZnO, CeO2 or Ta2O5. The catalyst has high ability to remove nitrogen oxide even at a high temp. of 400-700 deg.C. |
